Study Abroad

Snead State Community College offers an opportunity for students to see the world, experience history and its achievements, and learn life skills through its Study Abroad program.  This program gives students the opportunity to travel to Europe and experience what they have only seen in textbooks or on their phones.  In the past participants in the program have visited London, Paris, Rome, Munich, Venice, and Zurich.

Throughout the experience, students will not only see historic sites but experience the culture, food, education, and political structure of European countries. They will have the opportunity to connect historic items and sites to lessons learned in their curriculum of study at Snead State. They will be joined by faculty and staff from the College who will assist in their understanding.

Our partner is ACIS, the American Council for International Studies, which has been a leader in quality educational travel since 1978. Every detail of their educational tours are carefully crafted to open students’ eyes and change their lives. A network of suppliers around the world ensures 24/7 responses to any needs on tour. Adding in centrally-located hotels, authentic meals, and the best Tour Managers in the industry, the commitment is to provide quality experiences for students.

Students will also enroll in a one-hour credit course that prepares them to travel abroad and familiarizes them with the cultures and countries that they will visit. One of the student learning outcomes for the College is that of Global Understanding & Citizenship. In this experience, students at Snead State will demonstrate an increased awareness and understanding of how events around the country and world affect them and their rights and responsibilities as citizens.

What do our students think of the Study Abroad experience?

“Being part of the 2023 Study Abroad group to London, France, and Italy broadened my perspective on the world. With Dr. Kitchens’ guidance, we explored both academically and personally. This trip will stay with me.” -Kaleb Driskill

“Studying abroad allowed me to experience so many different cultures and pieces of history firsthand. Study Abroad FAQs

The Study Abroad trip cost varies depending on the destination and the length of time, but it can range from $4,800 to $5,800. This is based on three to four students per hotel room.

Yes. There is an upcharge for a single room, and there is also the option of two to a room if you choose to room with a friend. The amount for two to a room is a bit lower than one to a room, but it’s more than three to four to a room.

You will need a passport. That is most important. According to where we go, you may need a visa that you apply for online and costs around $25.

Snead State students are required to take a one-hour course called IDS 120. It is a course that will meet five to seven times on Monday nights. It will prepare you for the trip in all ways from travel to our destinations.

That is not a problem. We will prepare you for what to expect, and all you need is a passport and the desire to travel.

Yes! There will be Snead State faculty and staff members that will travel with you, and we will have a dedicated, English-speaking tour guide on the ground along with planned tours, food, and events.

This will vary as to how long and where we are going, but the general rule is about $20 for lunches and $40 for dinners that are not included with the trip cost. Breakfast every day is included as are anywhere from four to five dinners that represent the country we are in.

Those will be sent ahead and accommodated.

Unfortunately, though there are some accommodations, there is not a law in the EU that focuses on this. Often there are steps, small areas, uneven pavements, and a lack of ramps.

There are national scholarships. You can set up Amazon wishlists for things that you may want, or you can ask for money for holiday and birthday gifts. Also if you are eligible for a Pell grant, you can use your check to pay for the trip. You will get your refund check, deposit it in your bank, and then use that to defray your costs. Some private scholarships may help as well, and you would contact the provider directly regarding those.
