Sophomores Lexie Blackstone of Albertville and Caleb Bailey of Crossville were recently elected as the 2018 Snead State Community College Homecoming Queen and King.
Lexie and Caleb were crowned between the women’s and men’s basketball games on Monday, Feb. 12. The Parsons defeated Shelton State in the men’s game with a 96-91 win. The Lady Parsons lost to the Lady Bucs 98-72.
A total of eight freshmen and 10 sophomores were selected to serve on Snead State’s Homecoming Court.
Representing the sophomores were Lexie Blackstone of Albertville, Sadie Brock of Albertville, Abigail Rose Cheek of Albertville, Lillian Nicole Hawkins of Crossville, Joy Grace Webb of Albertville, Caleb Bailey of Crossville, Jacob Coker of Southside, Payton Childers of Boaz, Chance Fisher of Huntsville, and Payton Youngblood of Birmingham.
Lexie Blackstone is the daughter of Kim and Larry Blackstone. A 2016 graduate of Albertville High School, she plans to earn an Associate Degree in Business from Snead State Community College. She is the Secretary of the Student Government Association, Vice President of Fellowship for Phi Theta Kappa, President of Student Ambassadors, Publicity Chair of the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success, a member of Phi Beta Lambda and Sigma Kappa Delta, a student tutor for the Academic Success Center and a Presidential Scholar. She is a Bible study leader for third and fourth grade at Crossville Baptist Church. She plans on pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from the University of Alabama after graduating from Snead.
Sadie Brock is the daughter of Johnny Brock and Sherrie Willingham. A 2016 graduate from Addison High School, Brock is pursuing an Associate Degree in Science from Snead State Community College in Physical Education. She is currently a member of the Snead State Women’s Volleyball Team. She is currently on an Athletic scholarship through volleyball at Snead. She plans to pursue her Bachelor’s in Education from Athens State University.
Abigail Rose Cheek is the daughter of Emily and Allen Cheek and is a 2016 graduate of Albertville High School. She is pursuing an Associate degree in General Education and is currently a Presidential Scholar. Cheek is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Sigma Kappa Delta, and Student Ambassadors. She volunteers with the Keep Albertville Beautiful Board. Her future plans are to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham and earn a Bachelor’s in Biomedical Science.
Lillian Nicole Hawkins is the daughter of John and Michelle Hawkins. Hawkins graduated from Crossville High School in 2016 and is currently on an Athletic scholarship for Volleyball. She is pursuing an Associate degree in Elementary Education. She is a member of the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success, Phi Theta Kappa, and Sigma Kappa Delta. She is also a member of Lathamville Baptist Church. Hawkins plans on furthering her education at Jacksonville State University to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Education.
Joy Grace Webb is the daughter of Jackie and Jerry Webb. A 2016 graduate of Albertville High School, she plans to earn an Associate degree in Public Relations. Webb is currently a Presidential Scholar. She will represent Snead State as part of the All-USA Academic Team. She is a member of Snead State Student Ambassadors, Phi Theta Kappa, Sigma Kappa Delta, Baptist Campus Ministries, and the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success. Webb is also the announcer for Snead State Baseball, Softball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball team. Webb is a member of the First Baptist Church of Boaz College Ministry. She plans to transfer to Samford University in the fall 2018 and pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Sports Broadcasting.
Caleb Bailey is the son of Karen and Dale Bailey. Bailey graduated from Crossville High School in 2016 and is currently a Presidential Scholar. He plans to earn an Associate degree in Social Studies. He is a member of Student Ambassadors and Phi Theta Kappa. Bailey plans to transfer to Jacksonville State University in the fall 2018 to pursue a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Social Science Education.
Jacob Coker is the son of Lamar and Joan Coker. A 2016 graduate of Southside High School, he plans to earn an Associate degree in Business. Coker received an Academic Achievement scholarship at Snead State. He is currently an Ambassador and a member of the Phi Theta Kappa, Student Government Association, and the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success. He is a member of Southside Baptist Church. He has future plans to attend Auburn University to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
Payton Childers is the son of Justin and Kim Childers and is a 2016 graduate of Boaz High School. He is pursuing an Associate degree in Nursing. Childers is a member of Phi Theta Kappa. He plans on continuing his education at Auburn University to pursue a Bachelor’s in Nursing.
Chance Fisher is the son of Hope Fisher and a 2015 graduate of Huntsville High School. Fisher is currently on Athletic scholarship to play for the Snead State Men’s Basketball Team. Fisher plans to earn an Associate degree in Athletic Training.
Payton Youngblood is the son of Sallie and Tommy Youngblood. A 2016 graduate of Oak Mountain High School, Youngblood plans to earn an Associate degree in Chemical Engineering at Snead State Community College. Currently, Youngblood is on an Athletic scholarship to play for the Snead State Men’s Basketball Team. He is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa and an Academic Success Center tutor. He plans to attend Samford University in the fall of 2018 where he will pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
Representing the freshmen are Beth Buckelew of Guntersville, Allie Jett of Fort Payne, Emma Lakin Roberts of Boaz, Madison Nicole Self of Boaz, Matthew Butts of Blountsville, Nathan Cornutt of Boaz, Cameron Preston of Mobile, and Hunter Preston of Mobile.
Beth Buckelew is the daughter of Timmy and Lisa Buckelew. A 2017 graduate of Guntersville High School, she plans to earn an Associate degree in Elementary Education. She is currently an Ambassador and a member of the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success. Buckelew is a member of Guntersville Church of Christ. She will continue her college experience at Auburn University in the fall of 2019 to obtain a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education.
Allie Jett is the daughter of Brian and Brandi Jett, and she is a 2017 graduate of Fort Payne High School. She is currently on an Athletic scholarship to play for the Lady Parsons Volleyball Team. She is pursuing an Associate degree in Speech Pathology. She is a member of the Student Ambassadors, National Honor Society of Leadership and Success, and Baptist Campus Ministries. She attends First Baptist Church of Rainsville. Jett plans to attend the University of Alabama to earn her Bachelor’s in Communication Disorders.
Emma Lakin Roberts is the daughter of Jeff and Harolyn Roberts. Roberts graduated from Boaz High School in 2017 and is now earning her Associate degree in Computer Science on an Academic Achievement scholarship. She is an Ambassador and member of the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success. She is a member of Crestview Church of Christ Youth Group and Assistant Boaz High School Tennis Coach. Roberts plans to attend Auburn University where she will pursue a Bachelor’s in Management Information Systems.
Madison Nicole Self is the daughter of Zach and Bridgette Wallace. She is a 2017 graduate of Sardis High School and is currently on an Academic Achievement scholarship earning her Associate degree in Business. Self is a member of Student Ambassadors, Student Government Association as a Freshman Representative, Phi Beta Lambda as Vice President of Communications, and the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success. Self is a member of Whitesboro Baptist Church. She will continue to further her education at the University of Alabama where she will pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing.
Matthew Butts is the son of David and Monica Butts and a 2017 graduate of Hope Christian School. He plans to earn an Associate degree in General Education and is currently on Academic scholarship at Snead State Community College. Butts is a member of the Student Ambassadors and National Honor Society of Leadership and Success. He is an active member of Welcome Baptist Church and serves as the Assistant Music Director and Youth Sunday School Teacher. Butts is also a member of National Society of High School Scholars and National Honor Society. He plans to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology and Marine Biology at the University of Mobile.
Nathan Cornutt is the son of Chris and Kelli Cornutt. A 2017 graduate of Boaz High School, he plans to pursue an Associate degree in Agronomy and Soils. He is on a Presidential scholarship, is the President of the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Outside of Snead, Cornutt is a member of Gum Springs Baptist Church. Cornutt will further his education at Auburn University to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy and Soils.
Cameron Preston is the son of Brandy Smith and Patricia Carlton and a 2017 graduate of Theodore High School. Preston plans to earn an Associate degree in Biology while he is on Athletic scholarship to play for the Snead State Men’s Basketball Team. He is a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and a member of Student Ambassadors and the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success. Preston plans to transfer to the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2019.
Hunter Preston is the son of Brandy Smith and Patricia Carlton. A 2017 graduate of Theodore High School, he plans to earn an Associate degree in Biology at Snead State Community College. Preston is on an Athletic scholarship to play for the Men’s Basketball Team. He is a Student Ambassador and a National Honor Society of Leadership and Success member. He attends First Baptist Church of Boaz. He is planning to pursue his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2019.
