Snead State Community College invites the community to the Second Annual Black History Month Concert on Friday, Feb. 28 in Fielder Auditorium, located in the Story Administration Building on the Boaz campus.
The Snead State Music Department has built on the event that began in 2024 with guest artists Dr. Iris Fordjour-Hankins and Sarah Ruff. The 2025 Black History Month Concert will feature tenor Dee Hamner from Tuscaloosa.
Mr. Hamner holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Education and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Alabama as a student of Drs. Susan Fleming, Sandra Willetts, Gregory Gentry, and Marcia Hood. He has won awards from the Tuscaloosa Music Club and the National Association for Teachers of Singing (NATS).
He has performed as a soloist under the batons of Drs. Eric Nelson, Leslie Poss, André Thomas, Jason Max Ferdinand, Anton Armstrong, and Richard Massey. He premiered the role of King Jehoram in K. Lee Scott’s Naaman in May 2023.
Mr. Hamner serves as the Director of Vocal Music at Eastwood Middle School, where he is the department chair and mentor teacher. An avid lover of classical choral music, he currently sings with the First Presbyterian Church-Tuscaloosa Sanctuary Choir, Cahaba Chamber Chorale, Prentice Concert Chorale, and the Iron City Singers.
Mr. Hamner will be joined during the Black History Month Concert by Snead State’s own College Street Singers, Concert Choir, Jazz Band, Community Chorus, and Faculty Jazz Combo.
The performance will begin at 7 p.m. That morning, a preview performance will be held in Fielder Auditorium at 10:30 a.m. Admission is free to both events.
