The Boaz City Council and Mayor Tim Walker presented a $10,000 donation to Snead State Community College’s Horticulture Program, continuing a partnership aimed at enhancing the city’s appearance while providing hands-on learning opportunities for students.
The presentation recognized the ongoing collaboration between the city and the college, with funds designated to support the purchase of plants and flowers used in landscaping projects around Boaz City Hall and throughout the downtown area.
“This partnership gives our students the opportunity to apply what they learn in the classroom in a meaningful way,” Snead State Horticulture Instructor Dr. Tom Warren said. “They’re not only growing plants, but they’re also helping shape the look and feel of the city.”
The collaboration between the City of Boaz and Snead State’s horticulture program dates back several years and has included multiple financial contributions to support beautification efforts. Students in the program grow and install plants in public spaces, gaining practical experience in plant selection, maintenance and landscape design while contributing to community projects.
“This is a strong example of how a community college can work hand in hand with its city to create opportunities for students and improve quality of life,” Snead State President Dr. Joe Whitmore said. “We are grateful for the City of Boaz’s continued support of our horticulture program and its impact on both our students and the community.”
