Renowned Alabama Weather Network Meteorologist James Spann recently visited Snead State Community College to learn more about the College’s Horticulture program and its innovative partnership with the City of Boaz, highlighting the impact of community collaboration and workforce development.
During his visit, Spann met with Snead State President Dr. Joe Whitmore, City of Boaz Mayor Tim Walker, and Horticulture Instructor Dr. Tom Warren to discuss how the partnership benefits students, the local community, and the region. The conversation focused on hands-on learning opportunities, sustainable practices, and how the program prepares students for careers in horticulture, landscaping, and related industries.
The partnership between Snead State and the City of Boaz provides students with real-world experience while supporting community beautification and environmental initiatives. Through this collaboration, students gain practical skills outside the classroom while contributing to meaningful projects throughout the city.
Spann’s visit was part of a larger storytelling initiative, and a spotlight video featuring Snead State’s horticulture program will air soon on James Spann’s social media platforms as part of a campaign in partnership with the Alabama Community College System. The campaign aims to showcase the unique programs and community impact of Alabama’s community colleges across the state.
Snead State Community College is honored to be featured in this statewide initiative and appreciates the opportunity to share the success of its Horticulture program and the strong partnerships that enhance student learning and community engagement.
