TRIO Student Support

Welcome to TRIO Student Support Services!

The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program on the campus of Snead State Community College is an educational program funded by the United States Department of Education, whose goal is to graduate eligible students and prepare them for a post-baccalaureate education or career.

TRIO Student Support Services is committed to providing an academic, professional and personal support system that guides students to benefit from educational opportunities and achieve a greater quality of life. At present, the SSS Program is funded to serve 160 qualified students annually; therefore, working with a smaller population of students is what sets us apart from other resources on campus. Having more one-on-one time with students allows us to get to know the student better and provide personalized advising. TRIO Student Support Services serves to motivate and help students accomplish their goals by offering valuable support and services that will assist in student success and persistence towards graduation.

Students are among friends in the TRiO Students Support Services office. Our office is designed where students can enjoy a relaxing atmosphere while getting to know other classmates and a caring staff. A tutoring lab, computer lab, and study areas are also available to our students.

We sincerely want you, our participants, to have that extra help you need to obtain your goals and to get the best from your college experience. Our staff would also like to encourage you to become acquainted with the services we provide. Please take a moment to browse our pages to discover the valuable support available to qualified applicants.

Tutoring is one of the many services offered that many TRIO Student Support Services participants benefit from throughout their course of study. Tutors are assigned based upon the ability of the participant to benefit from tutoring, the availability of funding, and the availability of a qualified tutor.

The Tutor Request Form and the Tutor Application Form are also available in our office located in the Bevill Center.

Mission Statement

The TRIO Student Support Services’ mission at Snead State Community College is to increase the retention, graduation, and transfer rates of eligible students and to foster an institutional climate supportive of the success of low-income, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities, who have an academic need, by providing intensive individualized academic and other support services with the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. It is our goal to enlighten these students to realize their academic potential and encourage their pursuit for success within the academic realm.

Request a Tutor

If you are a TRIO SSS participant and would like a tutor, stop by the TRIO Office located in the Bevill Center and complete a Tutor Request Form. This form is also available on this website.  Be sure to fill out form completely, indicating clearly when you are available to be tutored. Drop your completed Tutor Request Form by the TRIO Office. The Academic Coordinator will review the form and compare your schedule with the tutors’ schedule to find a tutor that can work with you. You will be contacted as soon as a tutor is found and times appear workable.

Sometimes a request is made for a subject area for which we do not have a qualified tutor. In that case, we will do our best to search for a qualified tutor and contact you as soon as one is available. We ask that you contact our office after two weeks and speak with the Academic Coordinator to check on the status of the tutor search.
