The moment symbolized two years of hard work and sacrifice, but it was with mixed emotions that 53 Snead State Community College students crossed the stage in the Bevill Center to receive their pins as members of the 2018 class of Registered Nurses.
The special pinning ceremony for the RNs was held Wednesday, May 9, as friends, family, and Snead State faculty and administration attended to celebrate the students’ accomplishments.
Snead State President Dr. Robert Exley welcomed everyone to the ceremony.
Brittany Sherman of Albertville was recognized as the recipient of the Jennifer Garmany Hallmark Scholarship. The scholarship fund was established in memory of Snead State nursing student Jennifer Hallmark of Ruth.
The guest speaker of the evening was Kimberly Arnold from Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Arnold is a 2013 graduate of the Snead State nursing program and a current clinical instructor in the program.
Arnold spoke about her grandmother, who inspired her to follow in her footsteps and become a nurse.
“It’s amazing what you have accomplished. It’s great to touch others but just wait until your own career touches you personally,” said Arnold.
Following the death of her grandmother, Arnold said she knew this was the reason she had become a nurse.
“One day, you’ll have the assurance to know this is what you’re supposed to be doing,” said Arnold. “You know why you wanted to become a nurse. One day, you’ll know why you become one.”
