Snead State Presents ‘Silent Sky’

Snead State Community College’s Theatre Department is presenting its fall production called “Silent Sky” in November.

Written by Lauren Gunderson, “Silent Sky” is the true story of 19th century astronomer Henriette Leavitt. The play explores a woman’s place in society during a time of immense scientific and heart-bound discoveries. With music and math bursting forth onstage, Henrietta and her female peers change the way society understands both the heavens and Earth.

Snead State’s production is directed by Theatre Instructor Kyle Dean Steffen. Performances will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, and Saturday, Nov. 4, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5. All performances will be in the Bevill Center auditorium.

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted at the door. The community is invited to attend.

“Silent Sky” was first commissioned and first produced by South Coast Repetory with support from the Elizabeth George Foundation. Original music was by Jenny Giering.
