The community is invited to attend a special guest artist recital hosted by the Music Department at Snead State Community College. The recital will feature Susan Williams, soprano, and Dr. Kevin Chance, piano, from the University of Alabama.
The recital will be Saturday, Jan. 27, at 5:30 p.m. in Fielder Auditorium, located in the Story Administration Building at 220 North Walnut Street in Boaz. Admission is free to this special recital.
Susan Williams and Dr. Kevin Chance have many years of professional musical experience under their belts.
Williams has performed nationally and internationally in a wide range of leading opera roles and as a vocal soloist. A graduate of Birmingham-Southern College, she earned a master’s degree at the University of Akron and her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music under the guidance of Mary Schiller. Her scholarly interests include using body movement systems and integrating virtual anatomy technologies to enhance student learning in the studio.
Chance was named Teacher of the Year by the Alabama Music Teachers Association and has been hailed as “a superlative musician” playing “with musical conviction and muscularity.” He is a former faculty member at the Alabama School of Fine Arts in Birmingham. He holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music where he was awarded the Jerald C. Graue Fellowship for academic excellence. He also holds a Master of Music degree from Louisiana State University and graduated magna cum laude from Birmingham-Southern College. Chance is the University of Alabama’s Associate Professor of Piano and Keyboard Area Coordinator.
