
The Computer Information Systems, or Computer Science Technology, Pathway at Snead State is designated as a Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense through the Department of Homeland Security and National Security Agency. The Computer Information Systems degree pathway is also an Academic Partner with Cisco, CompTIA, Microsoft, and VMWare and provides a Testing Center for certification exams.
Students can earn a two-year Associate in Applied Science degree in five semesters in the following Pathways: Cybersecurity and IT Administration. The following short-term certificates are also available: Computer Software Fundamentals, Computer Technician, Cybersecurity, IT Systems Administration, and Web Technology Fundamentals.
Students are trained to earn industry certifications in the following areas: CompTIA A+, CompTIA Net+, CompTIA PenTest+, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA CySA+, and VMware Enterprise Virtualization.
Job Outlook for Computer Science Technology
Students graduating from the CIS program can find IT employment opportunities in both public and private sectors in Alabama and throughout the world. The job availability for careers in Network and Computer Systems is expected to grow 20 percent over 10 years with a median wage of $79,700. Job availability for careers as Information Security Analysts is expected to grow 20 percent over 10 years with a median wage of $92,600.
