GED/Basic Academic Skills
Classes are FREE to take!
The Northeast Alabama Adult Education Program offers free adult education classes throughout DeKalb, Jackson, and Marshall Counties. These classes are provided to help anyone 17 years or older and officially withdrawn from school for the purpose of improving skills in English, math, reading, GED preparation, and academic brush-up. After successfully completing the General Educational Development (GED) Test, one can qualify for civil service, college entrance, technical training, job advancement, and armed services.
As of March 1, 2016, ACCS as well as ACCS individual schools will no longer be issuing GED transcripts. This means that you will not be able to obtain a copy of your GED transcript at Snead State. The state of Alabama GED Credentialing has partnered with a paperless web-based “Parchment Services” for GED transcripts. When a GED candidate passes the 2014 GED, he will receive an electronic transcript which can be forwarded to schools or even downloaded (securely, which shows that the transcript hasn’t been tampered with) onto a thumb drive and taken to schools and/or employers to be downloaded on site. The process is the same for historical transcripts prior to the 2014 computer version. Most transcripts will have a “same day delivery” service. However, if a match is not found right away, a manual search will be done, meaning that it may take a few days to fulfill the request.
How to Request a GED Transcript
- Transcript requests are no longer handled where you took your GED test or from the Alabama Community College System. All requests are handled by GED Credentialing.
- To request a transcript, please visit the GED website.
- You may also call Parchment GED Credentialing directly at 1-888-906-4031 to complete the process over the phone.
- A transcript costs $15 per document.

Registration for the GED Exam is now online. Exams at Snead State Boaz campus are offered on Monday afternoons and Friday mornings. The dates, times, and all other information regarding exams are found at www.GED.com. The candidate will need a valid email address and credit/debit card in order to register. If you prefer, you may register via the GED call center by calling 1-877-392-6433 Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
The GED exam is a four-part test, which includes Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. Each part costs $30, for a total of $120.
