Welcome to Online Education at Snead State Community College!
Welcome to the online education experience at Snead State Community College. Snead State
continues to be a leader in the state when it comes to online education.
Snead State students enroll for more online classes each semester than students enrolled at other colleges within the Alabama Community College System. For the system as a whole, approximately 21 percent of the total credit hours taught during the 2013-14 academic year were delivered through either online or blended courses, but for Snead State, that percentage rose to 44.
Snead State is committed to continue the growth and development of online education to provide more opportunities for students and to increase the graduation rate through quality courses.
Snead State is proud to offer a variety of educational opportunities
through online education. Our courses teach the very same objectives and
outcomes as courses offered on campus; the difference is in the
delivery. Instead of attending a class where an instructor provides a
lecture and leads a classroom discussion, eLearning courses are
delivered over the Internet and through video capture. Most courses require approximately 6-7 hours per week during the semester to
complete the assigned work. These courses require as much commitment as any
traditional on-campus class. They require dedicated, ongoing, and
While the requirements and commitment are the same for online courses versus on-campus courses, online education offers definite advantages. Students may complete their coursework at any point during the day, instead of a set class time. Online classes fit within students' work schedule or family commitments. Concerns such as lining up transportation to and from class or arranging for childcare while in class aren't an issue with online classes; the classes may be attended from any place where you have a working computer.
Snead State offers hundreds of online classes. Additionally, students
can earn the Associate in Applied Science Degree in Business Management
completely online. This degree, which includes ten concentration
options, prepares students to enter the workforce or transfer to another
institution to pursue a four-year degree.
Other 100% online options include:
- Accounting Tech (Short Certificate)
- Applied Business (Associate in Applied Science Degree)
- Child Development (Short Certificate / Certificate / AAS Degree)
online. Most courses include required field experiences that must be
done at a child care facility.
