Student Admission Types

First Time Freshman

  • Select this type if this is your first time to ever attend any college after graduation from high school or obtaining a GED.

Items Needed:

  • Snead State application for admission
  • Signature/residency page
  • One primary form of identification (unexpired government issued photo ID) presented in person or a legible copy submitted by mail or electronic submission. 
  • Official high school / GED transcript documenting graduation
  • Official college transcript if attended as a dual enrollment student prior to graduating high school

Transfer Student

  • Select this type if you have attended a college other than Snead State after HS/GED graduation.

Items Needed:

  • Snead State application for admission
  • Signature/residency page
  • One primary form of identification (unexpired government issued photo ID) presented in person or a legible copy submitted by mail or electronic submission. 
  • Official college transcripts from all previously attended institutions of higher learning
  • Official high school/GED transcript documenting graduation

 

*Students who have achieved a minimum of a Baccalaureate degree are only required to submit a transcript from the granting institution for admission to the college, but may need to submit other transcripts for evaluation of transfer of credit.


Returning Snead Student

  • Select this type if you have previously attended Snead State as a credit student (after HS/GED) and are returning to Snead after a break in continuous enrollment.  Students who have attended SSCC within the past year do not need to reapply.  Students who only attended Snead as a dual enrollment student should apply as a First Time Freshman if they plan to attend SSCC after HS graduation.

Items Needed:

  •  Snead State application for admission
  •  Signature/residency page
  •  One primary form of identification (unexpired government issued photo ID) presented in person or a legible copy submitted by mail or electronic submission. 
  •  Official high school/GED transcript documenting graduation
  •  Official college transcript(s) if attended another college after attending Snead State
  •  Documentation of legal name change if different than last attendance period at SSCC

High School Accelerated (Early Admission) Student

  • This program is available to qualified high school students who have completed required high school prerequisites.  Accelerated students receive college credit but not high school credit.  High school approval is required.

Requirements:

1.    The student has successfully completed the 10th grade.
2.    The high school principal or his/her official designee certifies the student has a minimum cumulative “B” average and recommends the student be admitted.
3.    The student enrolls only in postsecondary courses for which high school prerequisites have been completed.

  •  One primary form of identification (unexpired government issued photo ID) presented in person or a legible copy submitted by mail or electronic submission. 
  •  Accelerated Recommendation Form signed by the high school principal
*Accelerated high school students are admitted on a “conditional” status.  The conditional status remains in effect and an official college transcript cannot be released until the student fulfills the general admission requirements (i.e. diploma from an approved high school, GED, etc.).


High School Dual Enrollment Student

  • This program is available to qualified high school students who have received approval from their high school to receive both college credit and high school credit.

Requirements:

1.    The student must meet the entrance requirements of the College.
2.    The student must have a “B” average (3.00 on a 4.00 scale) in completed high school courses.
3.    The student must have written approval of the appropriate principal and the local superintendent of education.
4.    The student must be in grade 10, 11, or 12.

  •  One primary form of identification (unexpired government issued photo ID) presented in person or a legible copy submitted by mail or electronic submission.  
  • Completed Dual Recommendation Form
  • Copy of current high school transcript

Transient Student

Select this type if you are enrolled as a student in good standing at another college and wish to take classes at Snead State.  A transient letter from your home college listing all courses that you are eligible to take at SSCC is required.

  • Signature/residency page
  •  One primary form of identification (unexpired government issued photo ID) presented in person or a legible copy submitted by mail or electronic submission. 
  • Transient letter from current college listing approved courses

*Transient students are considered non-degree-seeking and are not eligible for federal student aid.

Non-Citizens of the United States

Applicants who possess Permanent Resident status or Deferred Action status for Childhood Arrivals will be admitted to the college after completing an Admission Application and submitting required documentation. Permanent Residents should provide an unexpired U.S. permanent resident card along with their signature / residency form. Applicants who have been granted Deferred Action Status must present Form I-797 that specifically states that the applicant has been granted deferred action status, along with an government issued photo ID and the signature / residency form. At this time, Snead State does not grant admission to International Students.
