Dr. Robert Exley is the President of Snead State Community College in Boaz, AL. Dr. Exley received his Associate of Arts from San Jacinto College in Houston, Texas, his BA and MS from the University of Houston-Clear Lake, and his Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Exley has taught courses for Iowa State University’s graduate program in Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies, the University of Houston-Clear Lake, San Jacinto College and Miami-Dade Community College.

Dr. Exley currently serves as a member of the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Reserve Fund Advisory Council, ACCS Formula Funding Committee, ACCS Scholarship Review Committee, Alabama Community College Athletic Association Executive Committee, Boaz Rotary Club, and sits on the board of directors for the Boaz Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Exley served as a member of the American Association of Community Colleges Commission on Academic, Student and Community Development, Vision Marshall Steering Committee Co-Chair, Valley Innovation Alliance Leadership Committee, Alabama Community College System Task Force, Joint Policy Review Committee, and the Administrative Software Committee. He also served as a member of on-site evaluation teams for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Commission on Colleges reaccreditation visits to peer community colleges.

Prior to this he served as President of Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois and as the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He also held a variety of administrative positions with Miami-Dade College over a nearly ten-year period. While at MDC he helped establish the College’s nationally recognized service-learning program – winner of the Campus Compact National Center for Community Colleges 1998 Collaboration Award and in 1997 the National Council of Instructional Administrators’ Exemplary Program in Student Learning Award.

He serves as a consultant with the American Association of Community Colleges specializing in leadership development, faculty training, and program evaluation strategies for AACC’s national service-learning project. He provides these same services for other colleges and universities throughout the nation. He is a frequent speaker at state, regional and national conferences. In May of 2007, Dr. Exley was named a Distinguished Graduate of The University of Texas at Austin’s Community College Leadership Program in recognition of his national contribution to American Community Colleges.
