Snead State Hosts Upcoming Music Events
The Music Department at Snead State Community College invites the community to two upcoming events held at the Boaz campus.
A Faculty Recital is scheduled for Sunday, February 9, at 3 p.m. in Fielder Auditorium, located in the Administration Building at 220 North Walnut Street, Boaz. The recital will feature performances by Department Chair Dr. Barbara Hudson, Steven DiBlasi, and Mike McGee.
The annual Snead Piano Festival will take place March 6 and 7. On Friday, March 6, the Studio Recital will feature piano students from Snead State. On Saturday, March 7, Dr. DiBlasi will be joined by Sara Gibbs for the Artist Recital.
Sara Gibbs is a candidate for the Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the University of Memphis with a minor in Piano Pedagogy. During her DMA program, she studied with Dr. Cathal Breslin and is under the guidance of Dr. Artina McCain for her dissertation.
She is originally from Florida and received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance from Florida Southern College in 2009 while studying with Rita Fandrich. She then went onto the University of Memphis after receiving a Graduate Teaching Assistantship in Class Piano and taught there from 2009-2014. She completed her Master of Music in Piano Performance in 2011 studying with Sam Viviano. She was awarded second place in the Beethoven Club Young Artists’ Competition in 2011.
Ms. Gibbs has participated in master classes with concert pianists including Philippe Entremont, Jeremy Denk, Davide Cabassi, Yakov Kasman, and Paavali Jumppanen. She has taught privately in music studios in both Florida and Tennessee with students receiving Superior ratings in the local division of MTNA in Memphis, and has served as a judge for the TMTA State Competition. She relocated to teach at Elite Academy of Music in Ormond Beach, Florida in 2018.
