In their very first season, Snead State’s women’s golf team captured the first-ever tournament title win by an Alabama Community College Conference team Wednesday in Decatur.

Snead State went up against three other ACCC teams at the Calhoun Women’s Invitational at Point Mallard Golf Course – Calhoun Community College, Wallace State Community College and Jefferson State Community College.

Snead State led by 10 over Wallace State after the first day of competition, shooting a season low 335 in cold and rainy conditions.

The Lady Parsons fought even colder and windier conditions on the second day of the tournament. A back nine charge by Wallace State ended with Snead State and Wallace State tied at 110-over 576 at the end of 36 holes with 686.

A sudden death playoff ensued where all five golfers would play holes 10, 11 and 12 until there was a winner. After the first playoff hole, Snead State’s four best scores were Jordan Gregoria par, Morgan Mayfield, par, Brooke Harmon bogey and Samantha Shumaker bogey.

Wallace State managed a par, bogey and two double bogies.

Wallace State’s Ashley McCormick was the individual medalist at the tournament. She shot a 14-over par 144. Snead State took home the second, third and fourth place individual finishes. Harmon carded a 166 (84, 82), Gregoria finished with a 168 (81, 87) and Mayfield a 171 (84, 87). Harmon, Gregoria and Mayfield were named to the All-Tournament team.

Seven freshmen make up Snead State’s first women’s golf roster – Brooke Harmon of Morristown, Tenn., Cati Harris, Sierra Tidwell and Kayla James of Arab, Jordan Gregoria and Morgan Mayfield of Alexandria and Samantha Shumaker of Pittsburgh, Penn.

Snead State’s next tournament is in April at the Martin Methodist College Spring Invitational.
