Baseball Defeats Central Alabama
The Snead State Community College baseball team defeated Central Alabama Saturday 12-1 and 5-2.
Sophomore first baseman Ridge Watson (Arab) homered in the bottom of the fifth on a 2-0 count to tie the game up at one. Watson also homered in the six inning and hit grand slam in the seventh. He went 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in eight runs.
The Parsons big seventh inning was driven by a single from Orvis Cuello (Cullman), a walk by Jacob Heathcock (Wellington), a grand slam by Watson and a home run by Matthew Mullinax (Calhoun, Ga.).
Joel Cheatwood (Chelsea) earned the win for Snead State. He went seven innings, allowing one run, two hits and striking out seven.
Snead State had ten hits in the game. Watson, Cuello, Mike Battle (Midfield) and Zontairous Scofield (Cedartown, Ga.) each collected multiple hits for the Parsons.
Watson picked up where he left off in his first at bat of the second game, homering on a 2-2 count in the second inning.
Jonathan Inman (Bloomington, Ind.) hit a three-run homerun in the fifth inning. Snead State had 12 hits in the game. Watson, Brayden McCollum (Cedartown, Ga.) and Cuello all had multiple hits for the Parsons. Watson led the Parsons going 3-for-3 at the plate.
Amos Willingham (Summerville, Ga.) earned the win for Snead State. He pitched seven innings, surrendering two runs, one hit and striking out five.
Watson’s performance for the week of April 3-9 earned him the Alabama Community College Conference Player of the Week honors.
He batted .667 and had ten hits, including three doubles and four consecutive homeruns. He had 10 RBIs.
The two wins moved Snead State to a 16-15 (9-7 ACCC) record. The team travels to Delago Community College (23-10) this week in New Orleans for a four game series before returning to wrap up the second half of conference play against Southern Union State Community College, Shelton State Community College and Calhoun Community College.
The Parsons have three home games remaining in the 2017 season – Thursday, April 20, against Southern Union; Thursday, April 27, against Shelton State; and Saturday, May 6, against Calhoun. All games are doubleheaders and start at noon.
